Why this site exists

Kaomoji — Japanese text emoticons like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ — are scattered across old forums, dev blogs, and screenshots. Kaomoji Library gathers 500+ of the useful ones in one place, sorted by mood, with a single click to copy. No signup, no login walls, no popup asking you to install anything.

How the collection is put together

Every kaomoji here is a short arrangement of Unicode characters — a public building block, not anyone's copyrighted work. What we curate is which combinations to include, how to group them, and how to describe each category. Category labels and descriptions on this site are written fresh, not copied from other kaomoji sites.

The list grows as new ones catch on. If a face renders badly in mainstream fonts (missing glyphs, broken combining marks), it doesn't make the cut.

How copy works

Clicking a card copies its text to your clipboard using your browser's Clipboard API. Everything happens locally — nothing you copy is transmitted to a server or logged. If your browser blocks clipboard access (some in-app browsers do), a fallback selects the text so you can copy with the OS shortcut.

How the site is funded

Kaomoji Library is free to use and is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. Ads are clearly distinguishable from the kaomoji grid. We do not sell any product, and we do not charge for any feature. See the privacy policy for what ad cookies involve.

Operation

Kaomoji Library is a small, independently operated reference site. It is not affiliated with any Japanese cultural institution or the original bulletin-board communities where these characters were invented.
